白居易(772--846),字乐天,自号香山居士,是杜甫之后,唐朝的又一杰出的现实主义诗人,是唐代诗人中作品最多的一个。他曾将自己的诗分为四类:讽谕、闲适、感伤、杂律。

817 Builds thatched hall on Mount Lu
818 In twelfth month, appointed governor of Zhongzhou in SiChuan

826 Resigns post due to illness, returns to Luoyang. Younger brother Bai Xingjian dies
827 Appointed to post of senior librarian of Imperial Library in Chang-an
829 Retires from office, returns to Luoyang. Son A-cui born
