The Zhongxian of Bai Juyi's day, is now named Zhongzhou. The gutted city you see here is no more and the site now under water. This photo was shot from Bai Juyi's East Slope, just before the city was innundated.

City on the Changjiang, above the Sanxia, where Bai Juyi served in a post of relative exile. It was here that he walked on East Slope in the mornings. later during the Northern Song, Su Shi, in admiration for Bai, while Su was in exile in Huangzhou, named a hill where he lived East Slope, and took the name Dongpo, East Slope, as his sobiquet.

Photo of Zhongxian, taken from East Slope, just before it was innundated by the Three Gorges Dam.
