The Silver Spoon

Bai Juyi 772-846 To distant service my heart is well accustomed; When I left home, it wasn't that which was difficult But  because I had to leave Gui at home-- For this is was that tears filled my eyes. Little boys ought to be daintily fed: Mrs Zou, please see to this! That's why I've packed and sent a silver spoon; You will think of me and eat up your food nicely!

Lù Shang Jì Yín Shì Yǔ A Guī

Bái Jūyì 772-846 Zhé huàn xīn dōu guàn， Cí xiāng qù bù nán. Yuán liú Guīzǐ zhù， Tì lèi yī lángān. Xiǎozǐ xū jiāo yǎng， Zōupó wéi hǎo kàn. Yín shì fēng jì rǔ， Yì wǒ jí jiā cān.

Notes: While on the road to his new province, Hangzhou, in 822, he sent a silver spoon to his nephew Agui, whom he had been obliged to leave behind with his nurse, old Mrs Zou.
