Capital of China in Han and Tang Dynasties. Today's Xian in Shaanxi province. Photo is the ruins of the 大明宮 Dàmínggōng, Great Bright Palace, first built by the first Tang emperor 太宗 Tàizōng in 634 as a separate palace for his wife. In 663, the second Tang emperor 高宗 Gao Zong made it his main palace.
