Wei Yingwu was a native of Changan. As a young man he was an imperial guardsman for Emperor Xuan Zang. Later, after earning his jinshi degree, he served as Censor in Jiangzhou, Jiangxi Province and Suzhou, Jiangsu Province. His poetry has been likened to that of Tao Qian, Wang Wei and Xie Lingyan; quiet mountain and nature scenes with the poet in the background.
Stone Gate Mountain is near Yongjia, Zhejiang Province. Xie Lingyun's poem, Overnight On Stone Gate was written earlier on this mountain.
