Small country controlling the Ryukyu Islands chain stretching from the Amami Oshima islands southwest of Japan to Yonaguni almost within sight of Taiwan. Formally annexed by Japan in 1897.

Photo of Naha Port taken from 波の上 Nami no Ue. It was from this port that Ryukyuan tribute missions departed for China.
