Mosquitoes!
|
Xu Baoguang 1671-1740
These singing guests
arrive out of nowhere,
Leaping leopards
one after another
shoving and poking.
Evil demons beside my home
from the evening market,
Torn from the black dragon hole of sleep
a clap of thunder.
Outside the green mosquito net
still stubbornly working,
I flipflop my round fan
only temporary relief.
But the itchy scatching
goes on all night long,
Now they're planting their larva
on my eyelashes
indescribable!

Yāo shènlóu biān hūn yǒu shì,
Lílóng kū guō shuì jīngléi.
Cuì chóu yǐnyǐn piān gōng rú,
Tuánshàn fānfān zhǐ zàn huí.
Dàn jiě náo rén tōng xī mèi,
Míng cháo rǔ jié bùzhī cāi.

Notes: Beautiful as it is, Okinawa has two drawbacks; it is hot and has voracious mosquitoes! This shot of mosquito breeding country by the holy Seifautaki temple on the east coast of southern Okinawa.
