Casual Visit to Sailor's Home
|
Xu Baoguang 1671-1740
On opening the gate
dead ahead the saphire sea,
A single room
a small pool.
He invites me in
to his secluded retreat,
By the pool
a crooked path under trees.
He pours out a cup
Taiping wine,
And wishes me calm sailing.
His local 'yakitiyak' dialect
hard to decipher,
But we share friendship and thoughts.
The august world
revealed by the rising sun,
As the sailor and I
become blood brothers.
The wine warms
the sun and moon change places,
And as I depart
we tip our cups to the Palace.
