The Lijiang, a tributary of the Xijiang, West River, flows through Guilin in Guangxi Province. Somewhere below Guilin, between Guilin and Wuzhou, the name changes to the Guijiang. It is the Guijiang that flows into the Xijiang at the levee protected city of Wuzhou. Like in Saigon where the "French continually subdivided the main streets in honor of their generals, so that the Rue de Gaulle became after the third interesction the Rue Leclerc, and that again sooner or later would probably turn abruptly into the Rue de Lattre." from The Quiet American by Graham Greene. |
