Notes: After returning to Japan from studying of Tiandai Buddhism on Tiantaishan in today's Zhejiang Province, Saicho founded the Tendai Sect of Buddhism in Japan. The Tendai sect gathered all the diverse sects to create on all encompassing Buddhism.
