Cloudburst At Meitang
        Su Shi 1036-1101

At our feet
        a clap of thunder,
Lightening slashes obstinate clouds
        they don't disperse.
Outside dark wind tears at the lake,
From east of Zhejiang rain blasts in
        the river spills over
like wine from a golden goblet
A thousand tree branches
        knock together like drums.
One splash of cold water
        arouses the Banished Immortal
                who brushes sharp shark words
                        and torrents of jade blossoms.

Yǒu Měitáng Bàoyǔ
Sū Shì 1036-1101

Yóurén jiǎodǐ yīshēng léi,
Mǎnzuò wán yún bō bù kāi.
Tiānwài hēifēng chuī hǎi lì,
Zhè dōng fēiyǔ guò jiāng lái.
Shífēn liànyàn jīnzūn tū,
Qiān zhī qiāo jiàn jiégǔ cuī.
Huànqǐ zhéxiān quán sǎ miàn,
Dǎo qīng jiāo kōng xiè qióng guī.

Notes:
The 美堂 Meitang stood on Wushan to the east of Xihu in Hangzhou. The Banished Immortal is of course Li Bai. Once when he was drunkenly napping Emperor Xuan Zong dashed water on his face to sober him. Li Bai lept up and dashed off a poem!
