These are five Hindu shrines, carved from one huge mound of stone. They are commonly referred to as the 'Five Raths' in all the tourist brochures. But does anyone writing or reading the tourist brochures know what a 'rath' is?!! I surely didn't and looked the word up. It means either merely a 'mound or small hill' or, more exciting, and I suppose more to the the mind of some Euro-centric archaeologist, 'an ancient fortification found in Ireland'!! The use of rath is enough to raise one's wrath...They are nevertheless quite impressive.
