In a small village 15km from downtown Tanjur, on the bank of the Cauvery River, lies this Chola Dynasty temple. Only two or three visitors on the afternoon of January 15, 2007, the day of the Pongo Festival. I was able to walk quietly everywhere...no signs of priests to tell me 'No Non-Hindus Allowed'. Villagers rest, sleep and eat on the stone floor of the temple hall. Recently hulled rice, together with a pile of chaff lies in one corner. To me the most striking feature is numerous large lotus blossoms carved into the floor. they are 4 meters in diameter and beautiful! Like this temple.
