Nanning's oldest temple, first built in 726 of the Tang Dynasty on 青秀山 Qīngxiùshān, on the bank of the 邕江 Yōngjiāng, Yong River. In ancient times one came here by boat on the 邕江 Yongjiang and then hiked up, or more likely carried in sedan chair up the stone steps to the mountaintop. This photo is of the old main entrance to the temple that faces the river. Today one comes by car and enters from the back of the temple. It is a discomforting experience to enter from the rear, and takes a while to become oriented.
