Old cobblestone road through Nanning.
Toward Nanning
|
Ho Chi Minh 1890-1969
Iron chains and shackles
replace soft hemp cords,
With every step
sound of clanking metal.
Although I'm suspected
of being a spy,
I rather look like
a decorated official!

Tié shéng yìng tì máshéng ruǎn,
Bùbù dingdang huánpèi shēng.

Yíróng què xiàng jiù gōngqīng.

Notes: Nanning is across the border from Vietnam in China's Guangxi Province. Ho Chi Minh spent thirty years of his life as an exiled revolutionary, in France, China and elsewhere. At one point he was imprisoned in Nanning.
