Lake View Pavillion by West Lake in Hangzhou
Lake View Pavilion
|
Su Shi 1036-1101
I
Dark clouds, like overturned ink, all but blacked out the hills;
White rain, like bouncing pearls, splashed around into the boat.
A sudden gale from ground up blew it all away:
At the foot of Lake View Pavilion the water looks the same as the sky.
II
Fish and turtles released chase the human steps;
Lotus flowers unpossessed blossom all over the place.
With lake as pillow I can see the mountains undulate;
My sailboat untethered, I go with the moon for a ride.
V
Complete hermitage unattained, I have to be content with the second best.
But is it still possible to obtain a lasting leisure than temporary?
Now I have no home to return to, where else can I be?
Even my hometown does not have such beautiful mountain and lake
