Spending Night Alone on Solitary Peak

Ryokan 1758-1831 Spending night alone on Solitary Peak,  Sleet and snow engender muffled sorrow. Strange apes howl in mountain pepper trees, Frigid gully confines muttering stream. Before the window candle light hardens, By my bedside inkstone hollow parched.  All night too bright to sleep, Writing brush trembles on barren paper.

Gūfēng Dú Sùyè

Liāngkuān 1758-1831 Gūfēng dú sùyè, Yǔ xuě sī qiǎorán. Xuán yuán xiǎng shān jiāo, Lěng jiàn bì chányuán. Chuāng qián dēng huǒ níng, Chuáng tóu yàn shuǐ gān. Chèyé gěng bù qǐn, Chuī háo liáo chéng piān.
