Villages In The Hills, Five Quatrains, No. 4
Su Shi 1036-1101

With bramble staff and bundles of cooked rice
        he hurried off,
Yet the copper coins passed through
        his hands in a flash.
What's he's won is a son
        whose accent has improved,
More than half the year
        they've spent in town!

Shān Cūn Wǔ Jué Qí Sì
Sū Shì 1036-1101

Zhàng lí guǒ fàn qù chōngchōng,
Guò yǎn qīng qián zhuǎn shǒu kōng.
Yíng dé értóng yǔ yīn hǎo,
Yì nián qiáng bàn zài chéng zhōng.
