strangers
in an alien land,
Every year on this festival day
we miss each other.
I know you will be climbing high
gathering Dogwood blossoms
without me.

Notes: This poem was written in Changan, on the occasion of the annual Double Ninth Festival (ninth day of the ninth month), when Wang Wei was only 17 years old. The master poet started young!
