On Double-Ninth Missing My Brothers East of Mountains
        Wang Wei 699-759

Alone
        strangers
                in an alien land,
Every year on this festival day
        we miss each other.
I know you will be climbing high
        gathering Dogwood blossoms
                without me.

Jiǔyuè Jiǔrí Huái Shāndōng Xiōngdì
Wáng Wéi 699-759

Dú zài yìxiāng wèi yìkè,
Měiféng jiājié bèi sīqīn.
Féng zhī xiōngdì dēnggāo chù,
Biàn qiā zhūyú shǎo yī rén.

Translator: Dongbo 東波

Notes:
This poem was written in Changan, on the occasion of the annual Double Ninth Festival (ninth day of the ninth month), when Wang Wei was only 17 years old. The master poet started young!
