View of Dongtinghu from thr top of Yueyanglou
Mounting Yueyang Tower
|
Du Fu 712-770
Long ago
I heard of Dongting Lake,
Now at last
I mount Yueyanglou.
To east and west
lands of Wu and Chu,
I float here
between heaven and earth
between day and night
No news
of friends and family
Old and sick
on a lonely boat
War horses thunder
north of mountain passes,
I lean on my carriage
and weep.

Dù Fǔ 712-770
Xī wèn Dòngtíng shuǐ,
Jīnshàng Yuèyánglóu.
Wú Chū dong nan chè,
Qiánkūn rìyè fú.
Qīnpéng wú yī zì,
Loǎbìng yǒu gū zhōu.
Yuèmǎ guānshān běi,
Píng xuān tìsì liú.

Notes: Du Fu visited here late in life on his way down river from the Three Gorges, where he had spent several unhappy years.
