Singing Of Poor Scholars
        Tao Yuanming (Tao Qian) 365-427

Everyone has a home,
Only the solitary cloud has none.
Drifting into dark emptiness...
         extinguished...
Is there even a trace left?
Morning clouds disperse night-time fog,
Flocks of birds rise in flight.
Leisurely depart on the wing,
Not returning til nightfall.
Know yourself, guard the old ways,
Who doesn't know cold and hunger?
Intimare friends, if not here,
What the hell! Why grumble!

Yǒng Pínshì Qīshōu
Táo Yuānmín (Táo Qiān) 365-427

Wàn zú gè yǒu tuō,
Gū yún dú wú yī.
Àiài kōng zhōng miè,
Héshí jiàn yú huī?
Zhāoxiá kāi sù wù,
Zhòng niǎo xiāngyǔ fēi.
Chíchí chū lín hé,
Wèi xī fùlái guī.
Liàng lì shǒu gùzhé,
Qǐbù hán yǔ jī?
Zhīyīn gǒu bù cún,
Yǐyǐ hé suǒ bēi!
