Returning to Live In The Country 1 of 5
Tao Yuanming (Tao Qian) 365-427
When young didn't join the crowd,
By nature love hills and mountains.
By mistake netted by this dirty world,
Was lost for thirteen years.
Tethered birds yearn for old haunts,
Pond fish seek of darker depths.
Open new plots in southern wilderness,
Freed of ambition return to my country home.
An honest abode on ten remote acres,
A thatched hut of eight or nine rooms.
Elms and willows shade back yard,
Peaches and plums hang by my eaves.
Faint faint the distant village,
Curling curling the formless smoke.
Dogs bark in echoing alleys,
Cocks crow on tall mulberry trees.
By the entrance no grubby dust,
In empty room leisure to spare.
For too long cooped up in a cage,
Now content I live with no discord.

Wù luò chén wǎng zhōng,
Yī qù sānshí nián.
Jī niǎo liànjiù lín,
Chī yú sī gù yuān.
Kāihuāng nán yě jì,
Shǒuzhōu guī yuántián.
Fāng zhái shí yú mǔ,
Cǎowū bā jiǔ jiān.
Yú liǔ yīn hòu yán,
