View if 赤城山 Chichengshan, Crimson City Mountain
Night View Aboard Ship
|
Meng Haoran 689-740
Taking a perch I gaze southeastward,
Clear mountains distant water world.
Train of ships crowd at the wharf,
Come and go at whim of wind and current.
You ask me why I am here?
To visit Stone Bridge Falls on Tiantai!
Resting I gaze at rosy dawn clouds,
Perhaps they flutter over Crimson City.

Notes: this poem was written as Meng Haoran was aboard ship enroute to Tiantaishan. He was probably in the the neighborhood of Shaoxing heading south east to Tiantaishan.
