Huangshan Purple Glory Temple, (1)

*****De Pu Surrounding peaks clutch lotus throne temple, For ten li ascend sheer cloud-ladder trail. Coiled track crooks around lone spring, Temple gate soars! Tree tops expand! Exhausted wax-clogged traveler sighs relief,* Monks meditation cushion awaits my return. I roar!  Abrupt fortuitous perception,  Three mountain lives, no need for more!

Huángshān Cíguāngsì

Qúnfēng wéi gǒng miào liántái (yī), Niǎo dào yún tī shí lǐ lái. Sahn̄ jìng qū suí quán jiǎo zhuǎn, Sì mén gāo yā shù tóu kāi. Yóu rén làjiī pān chū juàn, Fózǐ pútuán dìng yǐ huí. Yī xiào xiāngféng tòng lǐng huì, Sānshēng shí shàng bùxū cāi.

Notes: 1. There is no 慈光寺 Purple Glory Temple extant on Huangshan today. But the site is there, including the well covered by a small shack with the inscription 佛眼泉 Foyanquan or Buddha's Eye Spring painted on a piece of peeling plywood, and a large hall labeled 慈光閤 Ciguangge, Purple Glory Pavillion, a few old foundation stones and a few stone carvings. The location is not on the peak as the poem suggests, but possibly in the Ming Dynasty when De Pu was here the temple was in a different location? Inside the hall is large bigger than life picture of Deng Xiaoping, dressed in shorts proudly leaning on a hiking stick. 2. * Wooden clogs which were waxed, perhaps to preserve them or to water proof them. In any event, a kind of hiking shoe.
