Located outside the Xizhimen Gate on the Changhe River, which flows into Beijing City from northwest to east. From the 15th to 19th centuries there were many Buddhist temples along the river. Sounds of drums and bells filled the air and pilgrims flocked to the temples. Today only the Zhenjuesi and the Wanshousi remain. The temple's alternate name, Wutaisi, Five Pagoda Temple, comes from the five pagodas on one base, which is the focal point of the temple.
