Nguyen Gia Cat 1762-? was from the Van Giang district in Bac Ninh defense command. He passed the metropolitan examination in 1787 to become an advanced scholar. After the fall of the Le dynasty in 1788, Cat served the Tay Son before 'submitting' to the Nguyen cause. He traveled to the North (China) in 1802.
