A native of Longmen of Jiangzhou, present day Hejin in Shanxi Province. Wang served as advisor to the govenor of Guozhou. He was drowned at the age of 26 on the crossing from Leizhou Peninsula to Hainan Island to visit his father. He is honored as one of the 'Four Outstanding Poets of the Early Tang'.
