The great Buddhist traveler and scholar also known as 三藏 Sān Xàng, Tripitika or Three Baskets. Between 629 to 645 he made the perilous trip to India and returned to China with many Buddhist sutras. He spent the remainder of his life translating these in Xian. His stupa tomb is located in the 興教寺 Xìngjiāosì, Temple for Preaching Salvation, just south of Xian.
