Li Yu, the last Emperor of the Southern Tang was noted for his paintings, calligraphy and poetry.he was unsuited to be a ruler and did not rule long. In 975 his court fell to the Northern Song and he was taken captive to Kaifeng, Henan. He wrote many poems while being held captive. On his 41st birthday the Song emperor sent him a gift of poisoned wine. He drank it and died.
