Stone precipice
a thousand perils,
Great river flows
an arrow in flight.
I hear the winged general
once landed here,
The setting sun
mourns the Prince of Kaiping.

Notes: Prince Kaiping, 常遇春 Chang Yuchun, was born in 1330 in Jia village, now Changwen Township, Huaiyuan County, Anhui. As a young man he joined in Zhu Yuanzhang troops and helped overthrow the Mongol Yuan Dynasty. Later he was promoted to general. He died of disease and in 1369 Zhu Yuan-zhang awarded him the posthumous title of Prince of Kaiping.
