On the Lijiang near Guilin
At Guilin
|
Ho Chi Minh 1890-1969
Guilin has no laurel trees
and no forests,
I see only tall mountains
and deep rivers.
Banyans darken the prison
truely frightening!
Days are black
nights are endless.

Hú Zhìmíng 1890-1969
Guìlín wú guì yì wú lín,
Zhǐjiàn shān gāo yǔ shuǐ shēn.
Róng yìn jiànfáng zhēn kěpà,
Báitiān hēihēi yè chénchén

Notes: It does make a difference to one's response to nature! Whether you are going to Guilin on a vaction, or, as was the case with Ho Chi Minh, in shackles going to jail.
