For Elder Wen, a Country Monk and Abbot of the Baoben Buddhist Temple of Xiu Zhou
        Su Shi 1036-1101

My mountain home thousands of miles away ― merely a thing to dream of;
The vernacular of Wu ― now my children's tongue.
Every time I chat with this old man from Shu,
The green of Mt. Emei sweeps across the horizon from end to end.
The master, having attained the true Dao, has given up all the words;
Only I would search for the right phrase ― with no other credit to claim..
Next year I will go and collect herbs on Mt. Tiantai,
And fill the entire east of Zhejiang with my poems.
