Written In A Dream On Jinshan

Su Shi 1036-1101
Long River flows east,
Jinshan moon fills the halls.
At midnight the tides rise
bearing a hot breeze,
I lie in bed
playing a panpipe
down to Yangzhou.

Notes: Jinshan was originally an island near the south shore of the Changjiang in Zhengzhou, Jiangsu. During the 19th century the river silted up and moved so today Jinshan is no longer an island. The Grand Canal is just to the east heading north to Yangzhou and south to Suzhou and Hangzhou.
