On The Road
        Ho Chi Minh 1890-1969

Although my arms and legs
        are tightly bound,
The entire mountain's
        filled with birdsong
                scent of flowers.
Freedom is joyful right
        no one should prohibit
I meditate on this truth
to reduce my lonliness.

Lùshàng
Ho Chi Minh 1890-1969

Jìng bì suīrán bèi jǐn bǎng,
Mǎnshān niǎoyǔ yǔ huāxiāng.
Zìyóu jué lǎn wú rén jìn,
Lài cǐ zhēngtú jiǎn jì liáng.

Translator: Dongbo 東波

Notes:
Ho Chi Minh was imprisoned numerous times by the French in Northern Vietnam and by the Chinese Nationalists across the border in China. We do not know the exact location of this poem. This image is of the road through Chi Lang in northern Vietnam.
