Thang Long (Hanoi)
         Nguyen Du 1765-1820
Umbrella Ridge, Filter River
         Year by year the same,
Now with white hair
I look again at Thang Long.
For thousands of years
        this post road maintained,
Now one new city
        but no old palace.
See old friends and embrace,
Fearless warriors few
         only old codgers now.
Restless thoughts
        bitter night
                cannot sleep,
Sounds of bamboo flute
        whistling whistling
                around the bright moon.

Tóng yóu xiá shào jìn chéng wēng.
