Staying Alone at Wang’s Home, in Mount Bo

(To the Tune of Qingpingyue)         Xin Qiji (1140-1207) Hungry rats circling the bed, bats flurrying around the light, the wind and rain battering on the pine-covered roof, the torn window paper keeps muttering to itself. A life stationed thousands of miles away, north of the Great Wall, south of the Yangtze River, now finally back home, I find my temples gray-tinged, and my face wrinkle-covered. Deep in an autumn night, awaking under a worn cloth quilt, I seem to be still seeing the far-away rivers and mountains.

Qīnɡ Pínɡ Lè

Xīn Qìjí 1140-1207 Rào chuánɡ jīshǔ, Biānfú fān dēnɡwǔ. Wūshànɡ sōnɡfēnɡ chuī jíyǔ, Pòzhǐ chuānɡjiān zìyǔ. Pínɡshēnɡ sàiběi jiānɡnán, Guī lái huáfà cānɡyán. Bùbèi qiūxiāo mènɡ jiào, Yǎnqián wànlǐ jiānɡshān.

Notes: This Mount Bo is in 廣丰縣 Guangfeng County, 江西 Jiangxi Province. We have not yet visited. This photo by Longhushan. [大意]饑餓的老鼠繞著床來回奔竄，蝙蝠圍著燈光上下翻飛。屋頂上狂風卷來松濤陣陣的呼嘯，殘破的窗紙瑟瑟作響，好像在絮絮不休地自言自語。我一生征戰在大江南北，如今歸來已是容顏衰老頭髮斑白。在這蕭瑟的秋夜，寒風吹適了單薄的布被，我難以成寐，朦朧中眼前浮現出遼闊無垠的祖國河山。
