To a Poet Monk
       Liu Changqing (714 - 790)
The Bamboo Groves Temple
stands amidst the deep green,
the temple bell carrying
the evening far
in a breeze.
A straw hat fastening
the setting sun,
you retreat alone
into the blue.
distant mountains.

Cānɡ cānɡ zhúlín sì,
Yǎo yǎo zhōnɡshēnɡ wǎn.
Hélì dài xiéyánɡ,
Qīnɡshān dú ɡuī yuǎn.

Notes:
[大意]蒼翠山林中的竹林寺,傍晚的鐘聲杳遠悠揚,身背斗笠披著夕陽的餘輝,獨自走向遠處的青山。
