Seeing Off Manshu To The Eastern Sea
|
Liu Yazi 1887-1958
Red lanterns green wine, how many drunken words?
Ocean surf Heaven's squall, thousand mile trip.
Sure it's high spring already mid April,
Under cherry blossoms you'll catch koto tunes.

Zhèngshì yángchūn jiù sān yuè,

Notes: This poem was written in Shanghai in 1912 as Liu Yazi was seeing off his
friend Su Manshu to Tokyo by ship. Su Manshu, with a Japanese mother
and a Chinese father had spent his school years in Yokohama and Japan,
and was returning to visit his mother.
