Su Shi 1036-1101 Friends, don't yank me back, Singers and instruments,         don't howl so mornfully! My life is just a transient thing, Do you think this is my final farewell? Partings...separations...everywhere. Grief and worry...         caused by ties of love, And I am no man of great importance, These tears, who are they for? Fenfen...wait a minute! Don't be so soft, Don't grab my whip and sever my stirrups! Look, on the roadside, that pair of stone statues, Think how many times they've seen a Prefect leave. If they understood they'd clap their hands, Roar with laughter and burst their hatstrings!�

Sū Shì 1036-1101 Lì mín mò bān yuán, Gē guǎn mò qīyān. Wú shēng rú jì, Nìng dú wèicǐ bié. Biélí suíchù yǒu, Bēi nǎo yuán ài jié. Ér wǒ běn wú ēn, Cǐ tì shuí wèi shè. Fēnfēn děng ěrxì, Biāndèng zāo gē jié. Dào biān shuāng shírén, Jǐ jiàn tàishǒu fā. Yǒu zhī dāng jiě xiào, Fǔzhǎng guān yīng jué.

Notes: At this point Dongpo was leaving his post at Xuzhou to accept another posting. Little did he know that several days later his boat would be boarded and he would be arrested, taken under guard to Kaifeng and thrown into prison awaiting trial.
