Sound of Rain
        Yu Ji 1272-1348

I sit imprisoned behind screens
            My hair thin and scraggy,
The candle remnant gutters
            As I drink at dusk.
Many years wasted in Peking
            My spirit exhausted,
Suddenly the sound of Spring rain
Brings thoughts of my Southern home.
