Scaling Heights

Du Fu 712-770 Fierce wind on high, gibbons mornful wail, White sand spit, birds flit aimlessly. Wind whistles, xiaoxiao leaves fall, Never-ending, Changjiang surges by. Autumn blues, a thousand miles from home, Constantly ill, I scale the tower alone. Bitter difficulties breed gray temples, I pause, thwarted, gulp a cup of murky wine.

Dēng Gāo

Dù Fǔ 712-770 Fēng jí tiān gāo yuánxiào āi, Zhǔ qīng shā bái niǎo fēi huí. Wú biān luò mù xiāoxiāo xià, Bùjìn Chángjiāng cǔngǔn lái. Wànlǐ bēi qiū cháng zuòkè, Bǎinián duōbìng dú dēngtái. Jiānnán kǔ hèn fán shuāngbìn, Liáodǎo xīn tíng zhuójiǔ bēi.
