Mountain Trek
|
Yuan Mei 1716-1798
Ten miles of rugged peaks
half mile of level ground,
Bid farewell to one peak
another welcomes ahead.
These green mountains
wrap around me
like a cacoon,
Up ahead it appears
no way to continue

Yuán Méi 1716-1798
Shílǐ Qí Qū bàn lǐ píng,
Yì fēng cái sòng yì fēng yíng.
Qīng shān sì jiǎn jiāng rén guǒ,
Bù xìn qián tóu yǒu lù xíng.

Notes: We don't know what mountain range Yuan Mei was trekking when he wrote this poem. But not far from his home in Nanjing is the Buddhist mountain Jiuhuashan.
