Between Jiang Han Rivers
        Du Fu 712-770

Between the Jiang and Han rivers
        chafes a returning traveler,
Between heaven and earth
        one no-account scholar.
With one slice of cloud
        I share the distant heavens,
With approaching night
        the moon and I
                together alone.
With each setting sun
        I regain strength,
In the autumn wind
        from sickness I recover.
Since times past
        there have been old horses,
It's not necessary
for us to gallop long distances.

Jiāng Hàn
Dù Fǔ 712-770

Jiāng Hàn si guī kè,
Qián kūn yì fǔ rú.
Piàn yún tiān gòng yuǎn,
Yǒng yè yuè tóng gū.
Lòu rì xīn yóu zhuàng,
Qiū fēng bìng yùsū.
Gǔ lái cún lǎo mǎ,
Búbì qǔ cháng tú.

Notes:
In the last years of his life, Du Fu languished in Sichuan and Hunan, far from the court in Changan where he yearned to serve.
