This natural stone platform on the peak of Xuedoushan enables a sweeping view of the surrouding mountain scenery. The name 妙高台 Miàogāotái, High Subtlety Terrace suggests a Daoist origin, but there is no Daoist structure here today in May, 2005. Xuedoushan was the ancestral home of Chiang Kaishek (蔣介石 Jiǎng Jièshí) 1887-1975 and he built a mountain home here and liked to have his picture taken standing alone on this terrace looking out over 'his' China. Before fleeing to Taiwan in 1948 he stopped here for the last time to pay respects to his ancestors.
