Suojiang Pagoda was built in the Wanli period of ther Ming Dynasty 1573-1620. it stands on the southern bank of the Changjiang, just northeast of Jiujiang. the pagoda was built to protect the people from floods. During the Japanese war in the 1930's the Japanese shelled the pagoda and destroyed the top portion, which was later restored.
