Notes;

During Su Shi's exile in Danzhou, Hainan, he was forced out of government quarters and built a small palm thatched retreat on the south side of Danzhou.Today, on the morning of December 30, 2003, it is deserted except for a stone marker. Red cocks and chickens scratch in the odiferous chicken and hog excrement and a black pig basks in the morning sun. Dongpo would appreciate the irony of the home of the Song Dynasty's most revered poet being turned into a pig pen.
