The Chua Nhat Tru is also called the Chua Mot Cot, One Pillar Temple, because before it stands a 3 meter tall octagonal stone pillar, the eight faces of which are carved with dharani incantations quoted from the Surangama Sutra and some versified prayers. This sutra pillar was erected around the year 995, in the reign of Emperor Thang Binh of the Anterior Le Dynasty.
