Binondo Church, also known as Minor Basilica of St. Lorenzo Ruiz was erected in 1596. It is one of the oldest places of Christian worship in the Philippines. It was finally destroyed in the recapture of Manila from the Japanese in 1945. All that remains of the original structure is the octagonal bell tower, which most interestingly resembles a Chinese pagoda! It is located in Minodo next to Manila's large Chinatown.
