We stumbled upon this old temple on 鳳凰山 in Nanjing while looking for 鳳凰台 where 李白 wrote the poem 登金陵鳳凰臺 Climbing Jinling's Phoenix Terrace.

Originally built in the 晉朝 Jin Dynasty, 265-420, and named the 瓦官寺 Waguansi, because under the foundation they found a coffin made of earthenware tile, 瓦. The character 官, meaning public or official, was substituted for the character 棺 meaning coffin, which has the same sound, because to use coffin would have been inauspicious.
