The largest monastery in Mongolia, and one of three famous temples connected with the life of Zanazabar, the others being Erdene Zuu Khiid and Amarbayasgalant Khiid. Built in 1838, it was largely gutted and emptied of monks in the communist purges of 1937. But it remained a token showcase monastery for foreign visitors during the communist era. Now it is teeming again with over 500 monks. Zanzabar's statue of Vajradhara, the embodiment of Tantric Buddhism, stand in the main hall.
